Estancias. Colegios, rancherías, obrajes.
Abstract
In the last issue we addressed the question of black churches as areas of worship built by Africans and Jesuits were the first whose users. We set with it a new ranking and valuation of the true protagonists. Among the many of these properties which the Jesuits owned in the province, are still standing architectural remains, not only in churches but also in the mill of estate of Alta Gracia and community housing in Santa Catalina. They are undoubtedly the best preserved examples of this Afro-Jesuit architecture, but these were not the only of these numerous estates where by the time of the expulsion (1767) reached the number of fifty, where more than five thousand enslaved people could be found.
Keywords: Jesuits, states, schools, villages, mills.
